| "After lobbing tear gas into the house where Livezey had barricaded himself, the tear gas canisters set the house on fire. (Actual photo above) As the blaze grew, Sgt. Bruce Hemmerle, another volunteer fireman who was also a police officer, and I were selected to enter the house wearing our guns, a Scott air-pack and carrying a two and half inch fire hose. As we entered the second story of the house, now fully engulfed in flames, we heard the POP of one last shot as Livesey ended his own life. I accidentally ended up crawling over Livezey’s dead body at the top of the stairs, unable to see him lying there because of the thick smoke."
